The first few days after your breakup left you walking around in a daze to some degree. You may have been completely numb or you may have simply wrapped yourself in a sort of cocoon of pain and blocked the rest of the world out completely. It's understandable. Your world had just been thrown off course and completely off kilter. The entire center of your universe had just been changed – without your permission or approval.

Now, you're beginning to come back down to earth and the realization of exactly what is going on in the world is beginning to, slowly but surely, sink in.

You didn't ask for the breakup. You didn't want it. But, here you are living with it. Well, perhaps LIVING isn't quite the right word at this stage of the game. You're pulling yourself through it, one step at a time though, and that's what really matters.

But, how do you stop surviving each individual moment and begin putting your life back on track again?

It's a concept that many people spin their wheels wondering about for  quite a long time. But it doesn't have to be that way for you. Here's what you need to do so you can start getting on with your life after a breakup.

Round up Your Friends and Family

These are the people who love you most and they WANT to be there for you. While some of them may not know exactly what to say to help you through a difficult time like this, knowing that they "have your back" can make all the difference in the world as far as your state of mind is concerned.

The best thing about gathering your friends and family near to you is that you will feel much less alone. Many of them have gone through this. While you might not appreciate the "you'll get over it" knowing looks they might exchange, most of them do understand what you're feeling. The other thing is that these are the people who know you best, flaws and all, and believe in you. Right now you're having a hard time believing in yourself so it's wise to be around people who have a little extra belief in you to spare.

Get out of the House

It's tempting to curl up in a ball inside your home and never leave again. Unfortunately, you need to go to work, to pay the bills, to buy groceries, and to do all the ordinary things you had to do every day while you were in a relationship. Believe it or not, you will find some comfort in the routine of it all once you force yourself to get back out there.

Sure, there will be moments of pain and regret but you'll come out on the other side much stronger. Getting back into the routine of your life can help you find some comfort and assurance that life really does go on after heartache. It's also an important step in your attempts to get your life back on track.
